Next year, we will be launching our Piri-Piri sauce under our brand name Adore Chillies. This is not a copycat version of Nando’s peri-peri sauce, but an authentic Portuguese Piri- Piri sauce – the way it is made in Portugal. It is an original recipe that we have tweaked to give it that algo especial (something special). To highlight its authenticity, we have named our sauce Piri- Piri and not Peri- Peri as it is called in South Africa and many other parts of the world.

You might ask what Peri – Peri sauce? In its simplest form, t is a sauce typically made with Birds-eye Chillies, garlic, lemon juice or vinegar and olive oil. It has its origins in Mozambique in Africa. The sauce was brought to South Africa by inhabitants of this once Portuguese colony. They name they knew it by in Portuguese was Piri-Piri, however the name got lost in translation and became Peri-Peri in South Africa.

Peri-Peri sauce is now part and parcel of South African cuisine. Peri- Peri sauce uses are to make Peri- Peri grilled chicken and prawns. It is also used to add flavour to fish, cheese, eggs, meat and a whole lot  of other dishes

While we can’t give you the exact recipe (it is a well-kept secret) what we can do is let you have a recipe that is similar.  Ours contains the same ingredients, but the secret lies in how we make it.  In this way we are also living up to the tradition of Piri-Piri sauces in Portugal where recipes are closely kept family secrets
