How to make Chillies less spicy

What makes Chillies spicy?

To understand what makes Chillies spicy, it is important to understand what makes them hot in the first place. Chillies contain a substance called capsaicin.  Capsaicin is a compound found in the white inner membrane of Chillies that creates a burning sensation in the mouth when Chillies are eaten. Capsaicin is only found in the inner membrane, and not in the seeds or skin of Chillies

The easiest way to make Chillies less spicy is simply to remove the membrane. However, there are many ways to reduce the spiciness of chilli peppers. Some people like to use vinegar, others prefer lemon juice, while others add sugar. But whatever method you choose, remember that the goal is not to remove all the spice, just to tone down its intensity.

To reduce the spiciness of chilli peppers, remove the seeds before cooking. This will also help. Another way to tame the fire is to soak the chilli in cold water for about 30 minutes before adding it to the dish. This helps release the capsaicin, which causes the burning sensation.!

If you have a Chilli sauce or hot sauce that is very spicy, the best way to reduce its spiciness is to mix it with mayonnaise, cream or cream cheese. This will tone down its hotness. On the other hand, why not just buy a sauce that meets your spice tolerance? Sauces in this shop that are mild to medium in heat include Prices Spices, Junior Sensation & Weymouth51 Beginners Chilli sauce for the mildest, Dr Troubles African Lemon Chilli sauce and Epicuriosity Pineapple Jerk BBQ sauce for sauces with a medium bite

Top Tip:

If you have eaten a chilli that is burning your mouth, use milk or a dairy based product to remove the burning sensation. Using water won’t work.
